Guest sentiment
A snapshot of what local diners frequently mention about this location.
"I visited Elysium Bistro recently and was thoroughly impressed. Taking over such an iconic spot in town is a challenge, but they have absolutely nailed it. The atmosphere is the perfect mix of sophisticated and welcoming—ideal for a date night or a high-end lunch. The food was exceptional. I highly recommend the vongole clams to start—the broth is incredible—and the pan-fried salmon was cooked to perfection. You can tell they prioritize fresh, high-quality ingredients. A huge shoutout to the staff as well; the service was attentive, friendly, and well-paced. It’s rare to find a place that gets the food, the decor, and the service all right at the same time. St Albans has a new gem. I’ll definitely be back!"
"Previous dined here when it was Thompsons. First time here since new owner - dinner for 4 this evening (301/26). Warm and friendly welcome on arrival. Nice decor and calm atmosphere. Staff very attentive and friendly. Tap water for table provided immediately. The cocktails, wine and soft drinks we had were fine. Lots of choice on the menu. Starters - generous portions and well presented. Main courses - steaks a little overdone and the ‘chips’ were actually more like potato wedges. Salad appeared to be freshly prepared. Chicken pasta and risotto fritto were good size portions. Overall the service and food was good. Would visit again and maybe try breakfast or lunch next time."
"Visited at 13:00ish on a Saturday, very nice welcome when you walk in and directed to a table. The menu was extensive, great for choice, but can imagine it could be stressful in the kitchen. Whilst the menu is extensive, the food was really nice, they have a selection of specials which offer something different to other places. The smoothies were great. Table water brought straight away. I would recommend giving the Bistro a visit."
"AMAZING! A must visit! Hidden Gem in St Albans, if you come here you will not regret at all eating here! The brunch it's great! Price/quality totally worth it 5 stars, I'll come back with family and friends"
"So glad we found this new restaurant! Gorgeous set up inside, attentive and friendly staff, and a wonderful menu. Went in for the brunch/lunch menu and felt spoiled for choice. Coffee was excellent, as was their fresh orange juice. Our mains were delicious and top quality. Our server was really lovely too!! Overall, a fantastic first experience and we can’t wait to return."
"Went in for breakfast shortly after they opened, arrived early on a Sunday. All staff couldn’t be friendlier and genuinely excited to have you. The coffee was fantastic we ended up staying for 2, breakfast was also great - both the full English and the salmon and scrambled eggs, high quality ingredients and quick attentive service"
"Went on Sunday around 2 and was really well looked after, just me and my 7 and 5 year old. Was the first time they both just ate all their food as was so good they didn't need to run off or try to escape. I had the arrabiatta which was delicious, I needed to add a little pepper for my own tastes but spice level was great. Coffee was absolutely on point and really what I needed after dealing with the kids at their club. Tiramisu was delicious and finished the meal in just the right way."
"Good quality food with fresh ingredients and generous portions. Friendly staff who clearly care about offering a welcoming local business. It’s a large restaurant and as a new business the atmosphere isn’t quite there yet but hopefully it will be. Worth a visit"
